Beyond THC and CBD: minor cannabinoids rise
CBN, CBG and others are showing up on more labels. What the 'minor' cannabinoids are about.
For years, cannabis marketing was all about one number: THC. Lately the conversation has widened, with minor cannabinoids like CBN and CBG appearing on more products and menus.
The newcomers
- CBN is often marketed around sleep and relaxation, it forms as THC ages.
- CBG: a non-intoxicating “parent” cannabinoid, is being studied for a range of effects.
- Products increasingly highlight blends and ratios rather than a single THC figure.
Why now
As the market matures past the “highest THC wins” phase, both producers and informed consumers are paying more attention to a product’s full chemistry, cannabinoids and terpenes together, the entourage effect idea.
A note of caution
The science on minor cannabinoids is still young, and marketing tends to run ahead of the evidence. Treat bold claims (like “CBN = guaranteed sleep”) skeptically. See cannabis and sleep.
A label that talks about more than THC is a sign of a maturing market, just keep your expectations grounded until the research catches up.
