Cannabis myths, sorted from fact

A lot of "common knowledge" about cannabis is wrong, and some of it is risky. Tap each one to see the verdict. Free to share.

“Indica makes you sleepy, sativa makes you energized”
Myth

The effect comes from a strain’s cannabinoids and terpenes, not the indica/sativa label, and almost everything sold today is a hybrid. Read the terpene profile, not the category.

Indica vs sativa
“Higher THC means better weed”
Myth

Potency isn’t quality. A record THC number mostly means a stronger high and a higher chance of anxiety. Terpenes, freshness, and your own tolerance shape the experience far more.

What THC % really means
“Edibles hit you like smoking does”
Myth

Edibles are a different beast: up to two hours to kick in, stronger, and much longer-lasting. Treating them like a joint is exactly how people overdo it. Start low and wait.

“You can’t overdo cannabis”
Half-true

There’s no known fatal cannabis overdose like there is with opioids. But you can absolutely take too much and "green out", nausea, anxiety, a racing heart. Edibles make it easy. It’s miserable, not deadly, and it passes.

Greening out: what to do
“Cannabis isn’t addictive”
Myth

Dependence is real. Roughly one in ten users develops some degree of cannabis use disorder, higher for those who start young or use daily. It’s less severe than many drugs, but "not addictive" is wrong.

Cannabis and mental health
“I drive fine, maybe better, when high”
Myth

Cannabis slows reaction time and judgment, and driving impaired is illegal across Canada. Feeling fine isn’t the same as being fine. Wait it out or get a ride.

Cannabis and driving
“CBD gets you high”
Myth

CBD is non-intoxicating. It can feel calming and it tempers THC’s intensity, but on its own it won’t get you high.

CBD vs THC
“Legal weed is weaker than the dealer’s”
Myth

Legal cannabis is lab-tested with the THC% on the label, often as strong or stronger than legacy product, and without the guesswork about contaminants. You know exactly what you’re getting.

Where to buy
“If it’s legal there, I can take it across the border”
Myth

Never. Carrying cannabis into or out of Canada is a serious federal crime, even to or from a place where it’s legal. Buy it here, use it here, leave it here.

Flying with cannabis
“Holding the smoke in longer gets you higher”
Myth

Most of the THC absorbs in the first few seconds. Holding it longer mainly irritates your lungs, it doesn’t boost the effect.
