How to choose a cannabis strain
Forget the indica/sativa label. The practical way to pick a strain you'll enjoy.
Standing in front of a wall of strain names is overwhelming. The good news: you can ignore most of the marketing and choose well with a simple checklist.
What actually matters
- Cannabinoid content first. Check the THC and CBD numbers. If you’re newer or want to stay clear-headed, favour lower THC and/or some CBD.
- Read the terpenes. These shape the character more than the indica/sativa label. Myrcene leans relaxing, limonene brighter, pinene more alert.
- Treat indica/sativa as a loose hint, not a promise. Most strains are hybrids anyway.
- Match it to the moment. Daytime and functional, or evening and relaxed? That intent narrows the field fast.
A simple method
- New user, want calm and clear: balanced or higher-CBD, moderate THC.
- Want relaxation: look for myrcene-forward profiles.
- Want uplift/focus: look for limonene or pinene and lower doses.
