Ontario has the largest legal cannabis market in Canada, with a private retail model overseen by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and a single government online store.

The basics

• Legal age: 19+
• Where to buy: Privately owned licensed stores, or online through the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS), the only legal online retailer in the province.
• Possession: Up to 30 g in public, the federal limit.
• Home growing: Up to 4 plants per residence is permitted.

Where you can consume

Generally allowed wherever tobacco smoking is, private residences and many outdoor public spaces, but not in enclosed public places, workplaces, vehicles, or near places like schools and playgrounds. Municipalities can add restrictions.

Buying legally in Ontario

Only AGCO-licensed stores and OCS sell legal, lab-tested cannabis. When comparing licensed Ontario retailers, look for verified licensing, lab/COA information, and clear potency labelling.
